FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask most.

Is it free?

Absolutely.

What is KYW?

An online word trainer: it shows a definition – you type the word. Accuracy and speed are measured, and a scientific memory model schedules reviews.

Do I need to install anything?

No. KYW runs right in the browser – open, log in, learn.

Why better than flashcards?

Flashcards show a translation – you “recognize”. KYW makes you recall and type the word from meaning. Active recall cements memory more strongly.

Which devices?

Any with a modern browser – desktop, tablet, phone. Progress syncs across them.

What algorithm?

FSRS-6 for scheduling plus our own in-session drilling engine. See “Algorithm”.

Where do words come from?

Add manually or import: line by line, JSON or CSV (word · definition · tags · synonyms · examples). The ready-made prompt in “Add” hands that work to a chatbot. Or type nothing at all: take a pack from the shared library, or from a link somebody sent you.

What do the statuses mean?

New – not started. Learning – in progress. Learned – firmly held. Difficult – consistently failed, needs attention.

Can I tune difficulty?

Yes – target retention, new-word limit, drill intensity, difficult-word sensitivity. But defaults are already balanced.

Is my data safe?

Yes. We don’t sell or share it, and transfer is encrypted. See “Privacy”.
